Abstract

The preschool stage is a period of high sensitivity for the development of different cognitive variables, such as Working Memory (WM) and Processing Speed (PS); and of oral language, highlighting morphology and syntax. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were: (1) to determine if there is a correlation between the measures of WM and PS, with respect to the measures of morphology and syntax of oral language, in students between 5 years and 6 years 11 months, from educational institutions of the preschool level in San Miguel, Pueblo Libre, Jesús María and Chorrillos districts; (2) to formulate the PS and WM profile, based on the measures obtained in this population; and (3) to formulate the morphological and syntactic profile of oral language, of the students of this population. The sample consisted of 49 subjects (28 boys and 21 girls) with neurotypical development, from the aforementioned districts. For the first objective, an associative strategy was used, with a simple correlational design (SCD). For the second and third objectives, a descriptive strategy was used, with a cross-sectional non-probabilistic selective design (CSNP). The results found statistically significant correlations between MT and Syntax, but medium correlations in the variables MT-VP and MT-Morphology and no statistically significant correlation between VP and Morphology; in addition, the profile of all the study variables (WM, PS, Morphology and Syntax) was formulated.
