Determinants of China foreign direct investment in Latin America

Abstract

Objective: Analyze the flow of foreign direct investment of the People's Republic of China from 2008 to 2017 in 7 Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. Method: The research is quantitative, non-experimental, longitudinal panel, descriptive and explanatory scope. Seven variables were analyzed: gross domestic product, trade balance, inflation, distance from Beijing to the capital of the Latin American country and natural resources, from 2008 to 2017. Results: Research results show that the only variable that currently attracts Chinese investment to Latin America is the size of the economy. Conclusions: The variable that seems to determine the investment in this region it lead based on the size of the economy, which was represented in this analysis with the GDP.

  • Luis Alfredo Ávila-López, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California

    Degree in Public Accounting from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico with a master's degree in World Economics from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, Sichuan, China and a doctorate in Global Development Studies from the Autonomous University of Baja California , in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. He is director of the China-Baja California Study Center (CECBC), Candidate in the National System of Researchers and current PRODEP Profile. He teaches courses in Financial Mathematics, International Finance and Probability and Statistics in the degrees in Accounting, Administration, International Business and Informatics, and courses in Research Methodology in the Master's programs in Taxes at the UABC, as well as tax planning and finance in the Master in Tax Law of the Center for Legal Studies. He is the author of books; It has several chapters in books and articles in popular, specialized and indexed magazines. Trustee of the taxpayer and expert translator of Mandarin Chinese.

    He holds a degree in Business Administration from the Autonomous University of Baja California, a master's degree in Corporate Finance from CETYS University, and a doctorate in Global Development Studies from the Autonomous University of Baja California. Full-time professor-researcher. Deputy Director of the Faculty of Accounting and Administration, UABC Campus Tijuana from January 2016 to 2019. Experience in preparing a salary tab for the entire City Council of Tijuana. Co-author of several book chapters. Co-author of various papers and extensive memoirs, presented at national and international academic events. Responsible for Administrative Activities and Document Control.

  • Carolina Zayas-Márquez, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California

    Bachelor of Business Administration from the Technological Institute of the Yaqui Valley, with a master's and doctorate in Global Development Studies from the Faculty of Economics and International Relations of the Autonomous University of Baja California. He carried out a research stay at the University of Zaragoza in Spain in 2014, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago de Chile in 2016; and at Southwestern University on Finance and Economics in Chengdu, Sichuan; China in 2018. He has taught classes at the bachelor's and master's level, in addition to teaching courses in diploma courses. It currently has a desirable PRODEP profile. She is a certified academic in administration by the National Association of Colleges and Schools of Accounting and Administration. He has published book chapters, scientific articles in specialized and indexed journals. He has participated in national and international conferences as a lecturer and speaker.
